Every year GitHub releases a summary of their usage report. Which includes top languages used, top emoticons used, top countries involvement, and several others to understand the world’s trend in the programming language. This report is, as they say, is known as the GitHub Octoverse report.

As of 2018 ending, there are 96 million+ repositories are hosted in GitHub. And 200 million+ pull requests have been made.

Top open source projects includes, (1)Microsoft/vscode, (2) facebook/react-native, (3) tensorflow/tensorflow, (4) angular/angular-cli, (5) MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs, (6)angular/angular, (7) kubernetes/kubernetes, (9) npm/npm, (10)DefinitelyTyped/DefinitelyTyped

Microsoft made the highest contributions scoring 7700, where google is 5500, Red Hat 3300, UC Berkeley 2700, Intel 2200, Univ. of Washington 1800 and then the facebook 1700.

Javascript is the number one language, and Java is the next.
